Day to day (10 days)

On arrival in Tanzania we buy a visa and drive to the hotel at the foot of Kilimanjaro. Maybe we'll see the mountain we're going to climb next week?

- Accommodation: Hotel
- Transport: 1 hour
- Meals: Dinner

We start the day with a briefing and go through the trip that awaits us. After the briefing, we go up to one of the villages at the foot of the mountain and look at daily life. We pass coffee plantations, waterfalls and charming small farms. It is green and lush. We eat a good lunch before heading back to the hotel. We do a joint equipment check in the garden and get ready for the climb.

- Accommodation: Hotel
- Walk: 2-3 hours, 6 km
- Transport: 1 hour
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

At 08:00 we drive to Machame Gate. We register and the trip starts towards the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. We walk through forest landscapes and rainforests in light, summery clothes. The mountain rainforest has a rich and varied flora. Large ferns and monumental trees such as camphor and kapok trees. Today's destination is Machame Camp. The temperature drops as we get higher up. The camp is located in the transition between rainforest and tall heather.

- Accommodation: Tent
- Walk: 10 km, 6-8 hours
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

We leave the mountain rainforest and enter bushland, heather and open areas. Before lunch, there are some strong downhills that take a lot of effort. A little over halfway into today's stage, there will be a stop for lunch. After lunch, the landscape flattens out before we arrive at Shira Camp in approx. 3900 m.a.s.l. It is possible that the shorts can be used this day, but there will in any case be a need to change into warmer clothes when we arrive at the camp.

- Accommodation: Tent
- Walk: 6 km, 5-7 hours
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

We are still walking through a dry landscape, sloping upwards on our way to the east. Sand and block landscape dominate. We pass the Lava Tower, which is located at approx. 4500 m before we descend steeply to Barranco Camp. The pass at the Lava Tower is a test of how you master the height. Today's stage is very sensible in terms of acclimatization, Walk high sleep low is the right way to climb high mountains.

- Accommodation: Tent
- Walk: 10 km, 7-9 hours
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Although the height is the same at the start and finish of today's stage, there are many meters of height during the day. There will be a lot of ups and downs and great scenery that changes all the time. Lobelia of over 1 meter and giant pig flower of up to 6 meters are some of the special and characteristic flora in this area. Today's stage will be experienced by most as pleasant, even if the start is spectacular and steep with one
strong ascent, Barranco Wall.

- Accommodation: Tent
- Walk: 6 km, 5 hours
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

All vegetation gradually disappears, sand and blocky land take over. It is natural and understandable that the vegetation has no chance of survival up here, frost every night prevents all vegetation from multiplying. Another rare phenomenon is wind-deposited sandstone. Sandstone normally occurs as a water deposit. As we approach Barafu, we hear the characteristic glass-clinking sound the sandstones make when they hit each other and when we step on them. We arrive at Camp in the middle of the day and get a good rest and sleep before the hardships of the night.

- Accommodation: Tent
- Walk: 4-5km, 4-6 hours
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

We start around midnight to reach the crater rim, Stella Point (5725 m), at the same time as the sun rises. From Stella Point to the top of Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak, it is approx. an hour's walk. When we reach the top, the fatigue is forgotten. You are proud of what you have done, a fantastic achievement. After the photo session, the trip starts down to Mweka Camp. We pass Barafu Camp on the way down, here there will be a good meal and relaxation before we continue. Today's stage is long, but it is going incredibly well, we are "putting on our strength" as the altitude decreases.

- Accommodation: Tent
- Walk: 19 km, 14-18 hours
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

We continue down, through the rainforest to the street. Here we check out of Kilimanjaro National Park. In Moshi, the party is planned, here there will be a diploma presentation, an African song by our team, food and drink, before we say goodbye to our new friends. During the party, tips are handed over to the chief guide. The usual tip on Kilimanjaro is 275-300 USD per person. participant. After the party is over, we are driven back to the hotel for relaxation.

- Accommodation: Hotel
- Walk: 10 km, 3-4 hours
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

After great days on Kilimanjaro, you can extend your stay with a safari and/or beach holiday in Zanzibar. Those traveling home will be driven to the airport approx. 3 hours before flight departure.

- Meals: Breakfast

- Some insurance companies require you to take out an extension if the single journey goes beyond a certain duration.

- Be sure that the insurance covers the selected geographical area.
- Some insurance companies have an upper limit on their cancellation and health insurance.
- Does your insurance cover the loss of the purpose of the trip?

The climate can roughly be divided into 3 zones. Along the coast, the outlying islands and the area around the Great Lakes, there is a hot and humid tropical climate; often with humidity of up to 90%. The high plains have a temperate climate, with temperatures down to 15 degrees at night and even lower the higher you get above sea level. At the top of Kilimanjaro, the temperature can drop to 10 to 15 degrees below zero.

Low-lying plain areas inland have a hot and dry climate. The warmest time is November to March with variations from approx. 25 to 35 degrees. There are two rainy seasons in Tanzania; a short rainy season in the period from November to January and a long rainy season that starts in April and lasts until May/June. In the short rainy season, there is more sporadic rainfall, only short showers, while there is heavy rainfall combined with thunderstorms in the long rainy season, most rain in April. Around Kilimanjaro there can be showers regardless of the rainy season, it is the mountain that contributes to this.

On the mountain, we live two by two in good mountain tents (3-person tents). Before and after the climb, we stay in a good hotel at the foot of the mountain. The hotel has rooms with shower, toilet and good beds. There is a restaurant, bar and pool.

Norwegian citizens who want to visit Tanzania must apply for a visa. Information about visas to Tanzania and a link to the application form is available here.
